Sassafras Mountain (12-19-11)

Sassafras Mountain is South Carolina's humble and seldom visited highpoint, reaching an elevation of 3,533 feet. The main reason it is overlooked, aside from its noticeable lack of views and a giant radio tower, is the fact that it is dwarfed by peaks nearly twice its height only 20 or so miles to the north. The nice thing is, if you don't mind 'cheating' to get to a highpoint, that there is a paved road that reaches within a few hundred yards of the summit so you don't have to waste a whole lot of energy reaching the top. We visited on a nice, crisp, clear December morning and easily bagged my 19th state highpoint...
