A collection of lighthouses, mostly from northern Lower Michigan, during the season of ice. I enjoy visiting lights during winter, its a whole different kind of beauty. During the winter I get a better sense of how isolated and extreme life must have been at these remote outposts...
Charlevoix Pierhead - The present tower was activated in 1948 and was, until the early 1980's, painted bright red. It sits at the mouth of the "world's shortest river," the Pine River which empties Lake Charlevoix into Lake Michigan.
