The Agawa Bay pictographs are arguably the most famous attraction in Lake Superior Provincial Park. We had already had a full afternoon of hiking on the Nokomis Trail (see previous gallery) but my family humored me and agreed to make the quick jaunt down to the lake to see them The trail is less than a mile long and drops steeply to the lake. As much as the glyphs, the rugged coastline is as big a draw for me. The trail passes some dramatic shore here. Unfortunately, Lake Superior was in one of its moods on this day and the petroglyphs were impossible to reach, with only one being visible. Regardless, it was a wonderful little side trip...
Mileage Hiked: 1.2 miles
Trailhead Temp: 55'F
Min. Elevation: 610'
Max Elevation: 850'
Warning! Death and Injury! The over-dramatic signs on popular trails always make me smile...
The trail starts out easy enough...
Soon enough we dropped down over the first of two cliffs...
I was impressed by the workmanship put into the construction of this trail...
Seriously? 250 meters more?! That's it, I quit... ;)
A short side trail leads down to a view of this hanging rock...
The trail continues to get a bit more rugged as we neared the lakeshore...
Making the final descent to the lake...
For the last hundred yards or so the trail clamors over and around some big boulders along the lake...
