In the somewhat vertically challenged landscape of Northern Lower Michigan, Deadman's Hill offers me the opportunity, however limited, of actually climbing something in lieu of a real mountain hike. As such, this was by no means my first visit to the hill...not even in the winter. With a fluffy, early season snowfall beckoning me to dust off the snowshoes for the first time this season there was no question where my first winter hike of the year should be. So, yet again I set out for that familiar hill rising above the Jordan River Valley and, as always, I wasn't disappointed.
