Lost Tamarack Pathway
The Lost Tamarack Pathway loops three miles around two scenic lakes to the west of Wolverine in southwestern Cheboygan County. Only a few miles down the road from my home at the time, I had tried to locate the trail a number of times over the winter but without success. The problem turned out to not be my map-reading skills but the awful state of the trail itself. For much of the hike the trail is not a trail at all but a series of widely spaced, faded blue blazes.
Setting out from the yet-closed Weber Lake State Forest Campground I spent the better part of three hours completing the 3-mile loop. Much of the time was spent standing in the woods simply trying to spot the next trail marker. Despite the difficulties this was still an enjoyable trail with some nice scenery. With a bit of work, it could be one of the nicer pathways in the area...
