At this small picnic area we headed east (left)...
The trail follows a low ridge as it headed east from the picnic area towards the highpoint...
The rolling terrain was quite pretty...
This small clearing with its lone pine tree marks the highpoint area...
The highpoint is just south of the trail through some light brush that, in the summer, is probably a bit more troublesome...
As far as I could tell this was the highest point along the ridge, so I dubbed this the Wayne County highpoint - 990'

Nearing the picnic area once again as the sun gets ever lower...
I noticed that a good number of trees along the trail had fallen victim to the Emerald Ash Borer. The lines you see here are made by the larvae of the bug as they devour nutrients from the tree, killing it...

on August 6, 2012Hi Dan, I found your post from summitpost as Maybury being the highest elevation in Wayne county. I am a novice hiker and training for a grand canyon hike and need 5000 feet elevation gain. When you say that the elevation is 950' does that mean if I walk maybury I will gain approx 900' elevation? Or is the gain much less? I am limited to southern michigan until end of August when I will head to Northern Michigan (where I grew up). Any pointers? Thanks, Karen May drkemay@yahoo.com
