The first section of the NCT I sought out to hike, near my home in Emmet County. This section is 7.5 miles long and traverses some of the hilliest terrain in Emmet County with elevations ranging from 720 to 1220 feet. Though not the most visually spectacular bit of trail in the state I was impressed with the amount of solitude considering the lack of public land in this area...
