Britton Hill (Florida's High Point)

Let the jokes begin.  Britton Hill, the highest point in Florida, understandably takes more than a little abuse in its designation as a "high" point.  Of the 50 state high points, Britton Hill is the lowest on the list.  In it's defense, one of them had to be.  At 345' above sea level it proves one thing everyone already knows about Florida, it's flat.  Even so, I've been to other diminutive high points (say, Delaware for instance), where the states they represent hardly bother to recognize them as such.  Not so in Florida...or, more precisely Walton County.  Despite being far off the main tourist track and, of course, not really sporting any magnificent vistas, the people of Walton County have decided to give Britton Hill the tasteful recognition it deserves.  Surrounding the high point is a simple park containing a few picnic tables, around a mile of easy trails, and of course a simple monument marking the crown of Florida. 

Unlike most albums I'm not going to go into a long detailed description of the hike I partook in here at Britton Hill.  It's only a mile walk, the trail system is well-marked, and the terrain is easy enough for anyone to walk.  This isn't a place where there's a need to follow exactly in the footsteps I took but rather one where you should just leisurely enjoy a walk in the woods.  Choose your own path and appreciate the simple but unique place you have arrived at.  Oh, and if you happen to make a joke along the lines of "summited without oxygen" or the like...don't worry pretty much everyone who visits here is guilty of it.  With that I present you with a quick walk around Florida's roof...Britton Hill at Lakewood Park...as always, I hope you ENJOY!!!
