Linville Gorge fr. Kistler Highway
Access for this hike required driving up the rough Kistler Highway. A pull-off area at the gated Wolf Pit Road offers up this stunning view looking right up the lower entrance to Linville Gorge. Shortoff Mountain (3,000') is nearest on the right, with Table Rock (4,100') and Hawksbill Mountain (4,020') farther north in the center...

This section hike begins at the southern end of Forest Service Road 106, where the MST arrives after its long climb over Dobson Knob from US-221. The end of the road, seen here is a large loop with the trail and campsite seen in the following pics on its outside edge...
