Elk Knob Summit - 5,520'

Elk Knob State Park

I had been intending to do Elk Knob for some time and I was excited to finally have a day to go. It was the day after a strong cold front blew through so the air was clear and cold. Temps at the trailhead were in the upper 20's and stayed right around freezing for the length of the climb. The trail is only a mile long but it climbs steeply almost the entire way...the views from the top made it more than worth while though...

The trail is almost finished - should be done by the end of August. We were there just last week - fabulous views. The trail is really nice, although relentlessly uphill. The picnic area is really lovely. Highly recommended!
