As the trail curves more easterly around the south end of the Chimney's ridge a noticeable trail breaks to the right towards the gorge. This is the north end of the unofficial NC Wall Path. This is the trail I'd shortly be following out to the edge of the Gorge but from its junction a bit farther south. I'd return via this spot...

From The Amphitheater the trail makes a short climb as it departs for the cliffs to the north. Again, this is a bit of a confusing stretch of path to follow so just bear in mind that the route tends to not wander far from the cliff edge so any 'path' leading too far uphill is probably a false route...

on September 12, 2019I have not done the Chimneys but will likely do so thanks to your detailed and amazing pictorial description. And Rock Jock as well. Another spot I like is Standing Bear which is never crowded.
