Sam Knob Summit Trail

Sam Knob

When the thermometer at home tops 90-degrees there's only one thing a responsible father can do...find a nice, cool mountain summit for his kids to explore! Sam Knob fits the bill nicely. As the closest 6,000-footer to our home, it’s a familiar and favorite peak of ours and the 70-degree temps up top would bring some welcome relief.

We ascended from the parking lot at the end of Black Balsam Road, which meant that it would only be a couple mile round trip. That was fine because the touch of humidity in the air would have made a longer hike more of a trial for two young boys. I don't usually post hikes with my kids but I thought I would here just to share a day in my 'family life'...
