A great hike I took in early December 2005. If you are wondering, yes, this is "the" Cold Mountain. It was made famous in the bestselling novel by Charles Frazier and later the hollywood movie. This hike climbs almost 3000 feet from Camp Daniel Boone to the summit at 6030'.

on June 9, 2013Thanks for an excellent tour or the Cold Mountain hike. I enjoyed every picture and description of this virtual tour. I am looking forward to my next hiking trip in this area in coming weeks.

on October 21, 2012Hiked Cold Mtn. from Boy Scout camp on Friday. It was challenging: rocks and roots everywhere, but, surprsingly, some flat trailbed, too. The view at the top was beautiful on a clear October day. Don't attempt this trail after or during rain. It would be a disaster because the rocks and roots would be too slippery.

on July 6, 2010On July 5, 2010, my husband and I day-hiked to the summit of Cold Mountain via the Art Loeb trail from Camp Daniel Boone. We were rewarded by incredible views at the top, but the trail is very steep and in need of maintenance. In the last half mile to the summit, the brush was so thick in spots we could barely make out the trail. For anyone hiking this trail in the summer, shorts that can be converted into long pants would be ideal. I would also recommend hiking poles to assist with knee support during the descent.
Thanks for posting the pictoral tour!

on May 26, 2010Thought that this hike was one of the best I've seen on the web. I attempted Cold Mountain myself and did not make it (longer and more strenuous than I thought!) I'm still wondering how you did it so effortlessly! I thought I'd run out of daylight before completing the round-trip...
