Riley Moore Falls

Riley Moore Falls is a pretty little cascade on the Chauga River in the northwestern Oconee County.  At only around 10-15' in height its not a massive waterfall but the river-wide curtain of water that the drop forms is well worth going to see.

I had stopped this day primarily due to the fact that this falls was on the CMC Waterfall 100 Challenge list that I have been trying to complete.  The days were, once again, quickly getting too warm for waterfall hiking in South Carolina so I decided to load up my boys and go for a quick afternoon stroll.  At just over two miles-round trip (unless you have a high clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle to get you to the true trailhead, saving a half-mile) the hike is only moderate in difficulty.  The wide, easy to follow trail winds its way down to the Chauga through a beautiful hardwood forest and was dotted with a nice display of wildflowers.
