The rebel line of battle stretched to the right and left of this symbolic fence line. The Union troops they were advancing against were located along the road the distant homes are located on. Because of their superior firearms, the Union troops could hit targets at nearly this distance while rebel troops would have had to advance close to where my kids are playing to be effective...
